Summary: Just slow down.
Comment: I purchased this earlier this year expecting to use it on a 400 mile drive to vegas. The radar arrived two days late and so I had so make the drive literally solo. Since then I have been using it everyday and realize that speed traps today are just not as common. The one time getting off the freeway I did almost fall into a trap, the Solo came through and gave me a different sounding strong warning. This ticket saved purchased my Escort solo but honestly unless you live around a lot of traps just slow down, save gas and then maybe we can get fuel prices back down under 1 buck.

Summary: Excellent... Few Issues...
Comment: I purchased this Radar Detector to travel from Colorado to Florida. I drive a WS6 and get on it through some open straights. I felt very comfortable using this radar detector. I was kind of worried that I wasnt picking up any signals all the way into Texas but when I did I was glad I had this detector. It let me know I was getting hit with Laser about a mile and a half out. The only issue I had was when I did get pulled over in Texas and I didnt receive any warning from the detector. I had no reason why either.. I could see the cop 1/4 mile away and I was the only one on the road and the only reason I got pulled over was because while I was reading the map, I didnt notice the speed change. The cop was really friendly however and even gave me directions. Overal a very good cordless detector, with a small hiccup as to why I wasnt allerted that one time.

Summary: Don't buy it
Comment: The problem with this unit is not the radar detector itself, which is adequate but not spectacular, but the windshield mount, which is just about useless and very frustrating. I've had it fall down 20 or more times during an hour. Look for something else.

Summary: Good product - but check warranty with manufacturer
Comment: The Escort Solo S2 is an excellent radar/laser detector. Two AA batteries provide the power for those who don't wish to deal with cords. Also has the ability to be hard-wired to vehicle 12V power with extra accessory cord kit.
Gives ample warning for radar bands Ka, K and X. Note: X-band radar guns are 1970's-type technology and you will encounter mostly K and the newer Ka band radar gun usage. The Solo S2 will pick up a Ka-using speed enforcer up to a couple miles away - the cheaper detectors give far less warning.
As for laser speed detection, well, it lets you know when you are being targeted. You will not have enough time to slow down unless you are using this in combination will other anti-laser measures such as special license plate covers and diffraction coating on your headlights. This happens because the infra-red laser beam enforcers use only spreads to 18 inches diameter at 500 feet and 36 inches diameter at 1000 feet.
As for the warranty, although I have had no problems, be aware that the manufacturer, Escort Radar, has a whole list of sellers from which purchases of their detectors will NOT BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. see http://www.escortradar.com/unauthorized-list.htm
