Summary: Got the job done
Comment: I bought this scanner to scan family photos. It got the job done, but as others have mentioned the scanning speed is very slow and noisey.

I didn't have any problems hooking up the scanner or installing the software.

I scanned about 40 photos, most all at 600 DPI. (The higher the DPI the higher the quality, but also the longer it takes to scan.) I found that it was essential to preview each scan (to adjust the scan area, do any tweaking, etc.), which really added to the scan time.

If I were to have more photos to scan than I did, I would look for something faster. But for what I needed and for the price, this is a great scanner.

I did have some trouble scanning documents in that many were illegible when scanned. But I didn't bother to look at the documentation for info or tips.

I only used the scan feature. However, the scanner I purchased also has a copy and fax feature.

Summary: Does not work with Mac Leopard 10.5.5
Comment: I purchased the LiDE 25 Canon scanner direct from Canon when I was told by them that my old Canon N650U scanner would not be supported by them for Leopard. They told me the LiDE 25 would work with Leopard. It did for two months until Apple updated Leopard and the Canon driver for the scanner would no longer work. After contacting Canon over the last 4 months trying to rectify this problem, it is apparent that Canon is not going to updated the driver and I now have two useless Canon scanners. I will no longer purchase another Canon product if this is the way they do business.

Summary: Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 Scanner
Comment: I am a graphic designer who works from home occasionally. My old Epson all-in-one printers kept drying up and I decided to switch to just the scanner. I don't need it for hi-res, color perfect work, just an occasional scan of my sketches or reference material. All this can be done perfectly on this extremely compact and elegant little scanner. Let me remind you, it has only one cable! It's a USB cable that you plug into your computer, load the driver (I don't need the rest of color software as I am using Photoshop) and it's ready. So far I've used for about a month and, as expected, it works as promised. The only comment I'd like to make is the noise it makes while scanning. It's not deafening, just surprisingly audible for something this small and light.
I am using it connected to my Mac running OS 10.5. Enjoy it!

Summary: Small and useful
Comment: I originally bought this product because it was small, thinner than my laptop, and portable. It also had a resonable price as well.

What I did not expect was the clarity it scanned my images. I use it for original artwork, putting my drawings online. It works amazingly. I can capture any type of medium without worrying that it will blur or the color won't show up.

The only trouble I had with it is the size. It is dimensionally smaller than my sketchbook. Which isn't that big of a problem to me, I can scale down my art. However, some of my older drawings won't fit onto the screen.

I highly recommend this scanner to anyone who wants something small and easily stored. It's easy to operate, the software is easy to install. If you want to scan larger pages, however, you may be better investing in something a little bigger.

Summary: EASY - Slip it out only when needed - plug it in - GO!
Comment: This is a dandy little scanner. Once the software is on your computer - easy - all you do is plug the scanner in to the computer when you need it. Otherwise it stores neatly under the couch. This scanner does a very good job. I'm a writer, self-publisher and I now hand weave small tapestries to use for the image on my book covers - scan them and upload the file. I don't have to use a mass produced cover, and I don't have to pay a designer. Win - Win.
