Summary: Affordable, but Poorly Made
Comment: After several weeks with this player, I've come to the conclusion that this is a case of "you get what you pay for".
On the plus side, the player is attractive, affordable, and not susceptible to mistracking while in motion.
On the minus side, the sound is harsh and distorted on many CDs (even when not played at loud levels). The player goes through batteries too quickly. And, as mentioned by other reviewers, the display is too small; and the idiotic placement of the battery compartment makes changing batteries a chore.
I would gladly pay twice as much to have a portable that sounds better and is more competently designed.

Comment: Stick the CD in and it plays. I would have preferred the window for checking tracks to have been illuminated. It comes without a 4.5 volt plug-in power block, but it has an outlet for one. I've used it for about a month and it seems to be a fine value.

Comment: I'm very disappointed in this. There are very few portable cd players on the market and I thought the Sony would be a good product. I'm old enough to have owned more than one Walkman and so I know they used to build durable electronics. I guess that's no longer the case. I bought this in late June 2008. As of December 2008, it will no longer play. It has never played well-skipping at times on cds that don't skip on my other players.
I'm very disappointed and from now on will only buy cheapo cd players. At least then, I haven't spent 40 bucks on something that lasts 6 months.

Comment: This is our second Sony player. It is hooked into our phone system and pays 24/7. Little to no maintenance. The previous one lasted 6 years. Are hopes are the same for this new purchase

Comment: It does the job well for my purposes. I use it mainly when I walk, and haven't noticed any problems with music playback. I like it.
