The Valentine One is one of the highest performing radar detectors on the market. One reason for this is multiple radar antennas! The only other detector with two radar antennas is the Bel STi Driver, but in the STi both antennas face forward. In the Valentine One, there is one forward antenna and one rear-facing antenna. Using this combination of antennas, it effectively tells you the band and strength of the radar signal, along with the number of "bogeys," or radar units being detected. It will also tell you what direction the signal is coming from, and provide the best rear detection out of every other windshield-mounted detector on the market. Even when this sounds too good to be true, theres more. The Valentine One has excellent laser reception, consistently appearing at the top of tests in this category. In addition to the super high-performance of Valentines detector, this model will never become obsolete. The very first Valentine detectors from 1992 look identical to the ones today, and can be sent in to Valentine to be updated with the latest hardware and software (charges may apply). If you decide on a Valentine One, youll be in good hands with the same detector for the rest of your life.

Summary: Best - depends
Comment: It really depends on your needs on what radar detector you need to get. I have a Valentine One (V1 for short) and absolutely love it.
My take on higher end RD's: the V1 detects the best and has the arrows (rear antenna). Belscort (BEL+Escort same company) tries to make up for this by adding features, which are pretty cool, but can't use the patented arrows of the V1. So the V1 is great but if you have tons of false alarms in your area (busy city) and can't stand them I would go with the more feature rich Escort 9500 or BEL GX65. And if you live in VA or D.C. (or drive a big rig truck) the BEL Sti Driver is the only way to go. So you can't really go wrong with any Belscort or the V1.

Summary: Valentine Gold Standard
Comment: Protection from speed traps is 70% visual profiling and the remaining 30% belongs to The V-1, the gold standard for electronic countermeasures. I have owned at least one for better than ten years now and have experienced stellar performance form V-1. No other even comes close. Plus there units are infinitely updatable, meaning there is no planned obsolescence.

Summary: Uh...the PRICE?
Comment: THis is a superb unit and deserves 5 STARS BUT don't buy it here for $579 when you can buy it direct from Valentine for $399?
Bizarre!

Summary: Valentine One Radar Detector Sucks !! Don't buy, It's Junk.
Comment: Valentine One Radar Detector is a big piece of JUNK. Two months old and had to send it back twice. Get this, they will not warranty the unit unless you bought it directly from them. In fine print in the back of the owners manual, it states the warranty is non-transferable. So, if you buy it from anyone else, YOUR WARRANTY IS NO GOOD. This company SUCKS. They know they are selling units to comapny for resale but will not warranty them. Go to HELL Valentine!!!

Summary: Too expensive and terrible customer service
Comment: The Valentine One is a good radar detector but you are paying a lot of extra money just to know the number of signals and where they are coming from (big deal!). I have tested it side-by-side with a Cobra 9930 and the Valentine One only detected signals about one second before the Cobra did (and that was mostly the X band, which as far as I know is not used anymore). Most of the time, they would both go off at the same time. So much for the hundreds of extra dollars spent on the Valentine One. And even though I agree with one of the previous users that radar detectors are not used to make a fashion statement, it should be mentioned that the Valentine One really does have a very outdated look. For the money that people put into it, the people at Valentine really could make an effort and come up with a more modern-looking device.
Every time a new update comes out (which if you think about it, is not very often: X, K, Ka and the 4 types of laser have been around for YEARS and the only new additions are POP and Ku), you can mail your Valentine One to their factory and they will upgrade the item for you (for a small fee of course: usually about a hundred bucks). And in the mean time, you have no radar detector for days! Also, if anything goes wrong with your Valentine One you will have to deal with their terrible customer service department (do some research online regarding their customer service if you don't believe me). Every smallest repair will cost you another hundred dollars at a minimum.
So basically you spend $500 for the device, hundreds of additional dollars for all the upgrades and what do you have? A very old-looking radar detector.
Do yourself a favor, check out some of the newer and less expensive models of radar detectors (like the Cobra 9950 which has GPS-enhanced detection of photo speed traps, in addition to many other cool features) and save yourself a few hundred bucks. In my view, the Valentine One is just not worth the extra money.
